Giving Thanks

As Thanksgiving approaches I am reminded of the reasons we celebrate each year. Is it tradition and routine or is it family and food? What is the true meaning of Thanksgiving? In the early colonial period pilgrims first gave thanks for family, friends and survival in the new world against the odds.

When I look back at the past year, I realize that I too have survived some things. I've gained some new friends and lost some old ones and I have been blessed to have a loving family through it all. So as I sit down to share a meal today  I know it is rooted in love and thanks.

For me, Thanksgiving means looking back and being grateful for those things that you've survived, whether it was a health scare, a break-up or the loss of a job we all have something to be grateful for. Above all, I am grateful to God for his love.

What is today about for you?
