I attended the Writers Digest Annual conference last year and met a group of amazing writers! One great thing about being around people who share your gift is that you find so much inspiration to want to be a better at it. Just listening to other writers speak about their ideas and being able to sharing yours does something to inspire greatness.

One great tip I picked up was to create a playlist for each novel you are working on and listen while you write. Perhaps you can choose songs based on characters or choose one theme song per chapter. You may even combine a plethora of songs that inspire thought. It’s so much fun! My first playlist was for Mulatto Blues, I pulled songs from almost every genre from early 1900's to today . Before I knew it my first list was made up of 16 songs.

Pretty soon I couldn’t wait to get into my car so I could blast my playlist as images of my characters and scenes came alive in my mind. It is so addicting! You could actually do it the opposite way as well, create a playlist first and then see what writing it inspires. Happy Writing!
