I recently attended a graduation in New York City and the main speaker shared his creative inspiration of New York City though numerous images that were taken over the course of his lifetime. These images began in the early 1950's until today. It was so inspiring to see images from a past that I had never been able to experience as it was before my own time.
When I left, I was inspired to peruse my own stored images from decades ago, pictures of me as a child in the 1970's. A time when bell bottoms and disco balls were at the forefront of the fashion and music industry. The 1970's, synonymous with the Vietnam War and Richard Nixon as President. As I continued to flip through the pages of the tattered family albums and boxes there were pictures of my late sister being adorned for prom in our wall papered bedroom where Michael Jackson posters graced the walls. Not to mention the pictures of the first computers and me proudly holding my first pager.
We each have our own journey and sometimes looking back at images of the past can inspire our future creativity. From this journey through memory lane I came up with a concept for my next book. Pictures can inspire creativity. So take out your old family albulms and find your inspiration.
